Sandi focused on handbuilding functional pots with soft slabs of clay. She demonstrated the application of texture to soft slabs using found obuects, cut out inlaid shapes, clay stamps and bisqued molds of textured surface. Her forming technique included making a basic cylinder of clay, which was aldered by paddling, cutting darts and pinching, and pushing out the clay to round the form. She also made shapes from leather hard clay which were then used as slump molds in creating various forms.
Alternate ways of treating with the bottoms of pots such as adding feet and foot rings was demonstrated as well as various types of handles. Sandi emphasized that good craftmanship was of utmost importance.
